My wife has psychotic depression. It started on Feb 2022. That time she took treatment (oral medicine) for more than one year and completely recovered and had a normal life. After that again on Nov 2024 she developed same symptoms of psychotic depression and then took medicine but this time she did not complete her medication as she recovered and became normal. Just like more than 5 times she develops the symptoms and gets medicine till the symptoms stays. After becoming normal (after 20-30 days) she lefts medicine. Now also she is having the same symptoms and having medicine. So how to stop the psychotic depression coming again and again. Please help.

Good morning
The reason for frequent relapses is abrupt and early discontinuation of the treatment. Don't stop treatment without consulting your doctor.

I'm sorry your wife is going through this. Recurrent psychotic depression has a high risk of relapse, especially if medication is stopped too early after symptoms improve. Treatment should usually be continued for the duration recommended by her psychiatrist, even when she feels completely well. Stopping medication without medical advice greatly increases the chance of another episode. Please discuss a long-term relapse prevention plan with her psychiatrist, and don't stop or reduce medication on your own. Regular follow-up and early recognition of warning signs are essential.
She appears to be having recurrent psychotic depression, and the biggest reason for repeated relapses is stopping medication too early. After multiple episodes, long-term maintenance treatment (sometimes for years) is often recommended. Please consult a psychiatrist for continuation therapy and never stop medicines without medical advice. Regular follow-up is essential.
It is appears to be recurrent psychotic depression, most likely due to stopping medication too early after improvement. In psychotic depression, treatment should be continued for an adequate duration even after symptoms resolve to reduce the risk of relapse. Since she has had multiple relapses, she should be under regular follow-up with a psychiatrist
