Protien suppliments
Hello Doctors, Since last 5 years, I have been going to gym. In my initial months of workouts, I only took healthy and balanced diet and no protien suppliments. Later, I introduced it in my diet to supplement the protien portion. So far, I have been taking it and had no issues. Lately, I had a stomach ache and approached gastroenterology and in general I mentioned about my protien supplement. Doctor said you are not suppose to take any suppliments. 1 or 1.5 gm per body weight is what required. My question here is : Why there's a concept of maintenance calories? Why the meals are divided in major 3 macro nutrients? Why there are diets with names such as high protein diet, or low carb ,low fibre. If we will intake protien supplement what are the side effects of it? I am not here to challange anyone but simply seeking for a reason for not having a protien suppliment if a person is a regular to workout and want to maintain muscle mass.

Hi, Ideally the protein intake should be body weight in gram/day Example your body weight is 80 kg so you can take 80 gm protein per day. Well I will answer your question one by one. 1)Why there's a concept of maintenance calories? calorie intake should be equal to calorie expenditure to maintain weight. So in simple terms eat according to your activity level is the concept. 2)Why the meals are divided in major 3 macro nutrients? It is divided to include all variety of food to make a complete balanced meal which shows the importance of carb, protein and fat altogether. 3) Why there are diets with names such as high protein diet, or low carb ,low fibre. Each n every diet work for particular kind of patient. But now a days generally people are using it for weight loss purpose and fast results. So please go for it by name. 4)If we will intake protein supplement what are the side effects of it? Taking protein supplement is not a problem but make sure it should not be a replacement for a well balanced diet. A balanced diet is must. Like everything else, if you overdo it or depend on it alone to provide you with protein, you stand to lose out on its considerable benefits. Whey protein is best as it is easy on system, has zero sugar, and is easy to digest. If you weight train regularly or run long distances, whey protein will become necessity.

Hi Our body is super intelligent and knows how much nutrition it needs. Protein powder and other supplements, body is not going to take whole of it, it has its own biochemistry. The chemicals used as preservatives, emulsify agents, colours used, flavors added, body does not recognize them and do not know what to do with it. Part of it is eliminated and some keep accumulating and makes our physiology pathophysiology. So try to eat natural whole foods. Nature has given us abundance of variety in fruits, vegetables, grains and other foods. So go for natural diets unless and until doctor prescribe you. Thanks

If the pain is bcz of indigestion u can skip taking protein supplement for few days and later start again once u r fine All the other things u have mentioned u will come to know once u go into nutrition Therotically so no point of elaborating so much Rest u can take supplement if u r doing proper workout and your body is able to digest The only thing u have to keep in mind is these two things If u need other detailing u can connect via practo

Hi, There's a need for any supplement when we're are not getting it enough from the diets. For different conditions we do need to take different diets too as like different medicines for different physiological conditions. You are advised to go with the natural sources rather than on supplements.

In previous time people take only homemade food and in festivals they enjoy fried items. But with time things change now on every Saturday and Sunday people indulge out side food and festivals is full of junk food. Which is only refined flour and other non indulging stuff. 1. That's why we need a maintenance calories for rest of the days . 2. No , due to different lifestyle patterns we can't divide into 3 portions. 3. Because of gym, clinical issues the diet is Given such Name so people can understand that low carb should be taken and high protein should be taken. 4. There are proper protein sources which we can get from food but unfortunately we stop taking that.
