Prolonged jaundice for preterm baby
My 22 days old granddaughter was born as a preterm at 33 weeks has prolonged jaundice , bilirubin level reduces after phototherapy and again raises after three or four days this happens three times Now for the fourth time again bilirubin level raised Her birth weight is 1.7kg and now she is 2.1kg.She is gaining weight, we were able to give 10 feeds per day , urinates 8 times a day and stool is green in colour Need suggestions

Jaundice recedes more slowly in preterm babies because of immaturity of organs handling bilirubin. They also need phototherapy at lower levels

Weight gain is good. Feeding 2hrly, ensuring hydration, good stool output and preventing infections can hasten recovery

As baby born at 33weeks premature baby may have chance to recurrent jaundice till the baby reaches 38weeks (term). Mean while just check is there blood incompatability present and also check thyroid function test also
