Pregenecy and Diabetic (under control)
Am  32 years old, and I have recently tested positive for pregnancy. This is my third pregnancy, and my previous two deliveries were normal. Regarding my health history: In December 2025, my HbA1c was 7.0. Through strict diet and exercise, I successfully brought it down to 5.6 and reduced my weight from 66 kg to 58 kg by March 2026. Since I am now pregnant(5 week LMP 26 feb), I have a few specific concerns: Is it safe for me to continue my current weight-management diet during this pregnancy, or should I make any adjustments for the baby's growth? Since I achieved diabetes remission (bringing HbA1c from 7.0 to 5.6) before conceiving, is there a high risk of my sugar levels rising again during pregnancy? What precautions or monitoring should I follow to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Pls advice

Yes, your sugar levels may rise during this pregnancy. A strict control of diabetes is required and also maintenance of diabetic diet and check your sugar is a regular intervals under follow-up is required. Coming to the restrictive diet for weight loss, I don’t think more weight loss is suggestible at this time because right now you are at ideal weight

During  pregnancy  following  strict low carb diet  not ideal. Take Nutritious  diet with no extra Sugars, fats .Take Nutrition specialist  advice for diet  for your  height and weight. Keep  checking  your  sugars to keep  a track, and  during  pregnancy  there is a possibility  of Gestational  diabetes.

Since your sugars are well controlled (HbA1c 5.6), that’s a great start 👍 Diet: Do not continue a strict weight-loss diet now. Pregnancy needs balanced nutrition. Shift to a controlled, balanced diet (complex carbs, protein, healthy fats) rather than calorie restriction. Weight: Aim for gradual, appropriate weight gain, not weight loss. Diabetes risk: Yes, pregnancy hormones can increase sugar levels, so there is a chance of sugars rising again. Monitoring: Check fasting and post-meal sugars regularly and repeat HbA1c as advised. Precautions: Stay active (walking), avoid sugars/refined carbs, and have regular antenatal checkups.

That depends on the type of diet For diabetes you should follow low glycemic index food during pregnancy. But balanced food is the priority. Don't compromise on protein content. Walking 30 min a day. During pregnancy fasting and postprandial sugar levels should be checked every 14 days if under control. If not under control you need a personalised protocol
