It is a very good idea to get your check up done before you plan a pregnancy. This is called prenatal testing. This will include a General check up and a check up internally to see if your uterus and vagina is healthy. Blood tests for blood group, anaemia, blood sugar is important. Check up for infections which can harm your baby such as HIV, syphilis, jaundice should be done. These are simple blood tests. Lastly it is important to check for Thalassemia which is a genetic disease in the baby which is checked through the mother's blood test. None of these tests require any procedure. Folic Acid supplement is required. Other vitamins only if indicated.
Next Steps
visit the gynaecologist at least 2 months before she plans her pregnancy.
