Post speculum examination discharge
I am 24 weeks and had a speculum exam yesterday. Today morning after bowel movement I noticed a long white stringy discharge with a brown blood spot on it. My doc checked my cervix and everything yesterday. Cervical length was 2.7 cm. I am a high risk pregnancy. Worried if the discharge was mucus plug.

A little blood-tinged, stringy discharge after yesterday's speculum exam is common. It usually comes from mild irritation of the cervix during the check rather than true loss of your mucus plug. Your cervical length of 2.7 cm is a reassuring, normal measurement at 24 weeks, which makes early labour changes less likely right now.
Next Steps
Keep track of how much discharge you're having and whether it settles over the next day or two, which is the usual pattern after an exam like this.
Health Tips
Call your obstetrician the same day if you notice a sudden watery gush, heavier bleeding, period-like cramping or pelvic pressure, since those need checking sooner.
