Cervical change in a week
I am 24 weeks today. I am a high risk pregnancy because of a hematoma that lifted the edge of low lying placenta by week 15. I had two episodes of bleeding and was hospitalized, treated and everything settled. Now the hematoma is chronic and has reduced in size and placenta has migrated and the edge has thick bands beneath it. I also have amniotic sheet. Yesterday I had speculum test and today I lost a large white stringy discharge with brown blood on it. My cervix measured 2.7 cm yesterday in TVS and it was 2.9 cm last week. I am worried and anxious. This is a precious pregnancy after two prior losses and I so want to make it to full term. I am on oral progesterone and PIO. Doc now has given me antibiotics to clear vaginal and UTI infections as prevention. Please tell me if I can still hope for the best.

A speculum exam can itself cause a small amount of spotting or discharge afterward, so brown tinged discharge the day after yours is often from the exam rather than a new problem. Your cervix measuring 2.7cm today, close to 2.9cm last week, is still a reassuring length and well within normal variation between scans. The hematoma shrinking and the placenta migrating away from the cervix are both genuinely encouraging signs for this pregnancy.
Next Steps
Keep taking your progesterone and antibiotics exactly as prescribed, and please continue to see your obstetrician for close follow-up scans, since they know your full history and can track the real trend over time.
Health Tips
Go in the same day if you get fresh red bleeding, fluid leaking, worsening pain, or fever.
