Polycystic kidney disease is of many types. I guess that you are referring to Adult polycystic kidney disease. In this disease, during the initial stages the treatment is purely supportive with BP medications , Kidney protective medications such as ARBs , Sodium Bicarbonate tablets and with measures to avoid serious Urinary tract infections. In view of multiple organ involvement in few patients, evaluation of other organ systems will be contemplated to avoid sudden complications. Other family members will be screened . People with this disorder usually enter into Dialysis either in fifth or sixth decade of life and till than only medications can take care. If proper medical care is obtained and followed , one can enjoy a good quality of life.
