Treatment has two phases. Initial or acute phase and maintenance phase. For a first episode mania, initial phase of treatment may extend up to 4 -6 weeks. Then you have to continue medication in maintenance phase for atleast 1 to 2 years to prevent the relapse. Then can be slowly taper and stop medication under the supervision of a psychiatrist. Recurrent manic episodes may need prolonged maintenance treatment to prevent frequent relapse and to preserve proper socio occupational functioning. Thank you ❤️

Bipolar disorder is the disorder . (Mania, hypomania and Depression could be the presentation of it).
Mania with medications usually subsides within few weeks but medications may need to be taken for a few months to avoid relapse
It's not a standardized treatment or a standard duration for illness to settle . Need a detailed history , usually antipsychotics/mood stabilisers are prescribed. You can get a second opinion if you want
