Greetings, A pilonidal cyst is almost always located near the tailbone at the top of the cleft of the buttocks. Pilonidal cysts usually occur when hair punctures the skin and then becomes embedded. If a pilonidal cyst becomes infected, the resulting abscess is often extremely painful. If the infection is limited, it can possibly be treated with antibiotics alone. If the infection is more severe or gets worse, it will need to be drained. Often this can be done with a small incision under local anesthesia, but may need surgery to treat it or prevent it from returning.Regards Dr shuhaib MP(Pune)
