PCV vaccine importance
Hello Doctor, I have a kid of 16 month old...this query is regarding the administration of vaccine...We used to administer vaccine without fail in a private hospital until the baby turned 1 yr. But when we went to a different doctor to administer the vaccine for subsequent months, the doctor informed us that below 2 vaccines are missed and asked to administer it at 16th month. 1. Easysix 2. PCV (Prevenar13) Question 1: Since we have already adminstered separate vaccines for Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hep B, Hib and Polio, please let us know is it necessary to again administer Easysix injection. I guess it is same as the 6 separate vaccines which was already adminstered. Please advise. Question 2: Please let me know whether PCV vaccine is really necessary. This vaccine is not currently in the govt list. So not sure whether this is really needed.

1. Easy six may be recommended by your doctor to cover for IPV booster. Either you can go for it or you can take Quadrovax and polio drops. 2. PCV is a recommended vaccine for all children under 5 years. So go for it.

1) it must be booster dose of DPT, polio and hiB vaccines on 18 months. Please share your vaccination chart for details 2) pneumococcal vaccine is to get protect from pneumococcal bacteria which cause pneumonia and septicaemia. In few states pneumococcal vaccine is in government schedule and hopefully it will be available in all states in near future. But it doesn’t mean that if vaccines is not in government schedule that vaccine is not necessary.

According to National immunization schedule followed presently in india PCV vaccine is not included as a routine immunization PCV vaccination is usually preferred in certain selected conditions and immunocompromised people. But there is no harm in taking PCV vaccine as such also it is not absolutely necessary. Regarding the Easysix vaccine as the child is already 16months old it is not needed as it has been covered during the previous vaccination schedule u have followed
Next Steps
You can take DPT vaccine and MMR when the child is 18months old
