For a 30-year-old male from Hyderabad with pain in the upper stomach and left back for two months, especially after eating spicy food, the most likely cause is gastritis or acid reflux. The burning pain between the chest and stomach area happens when stomach acid irritates the lining or moves upward after heavy or spicy meals. The pain can also radiate to the back or left side. Less commonly, it can be due to pancreatitis, gallbladder, or kidney issues, but these usually cause stronger pain, nausea, or vomiting. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Avoid spicy, oily, and late-night food. Do not lie down for 2 to 3 hours after eating. Reduce tea, coffee, and alcohol. Drink plenty of water and add more fruits and vegetables. If pain persists for more than a week or worsens, you need tests like abdominal ultrasound, amylase, lipase, and an upper GI endoscopy to rule out ulcers or pancreatitis. For proper evaluation and safe treatment, book a consultation with me (Dr. Pankaj Kumar) on Practo.

Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me. I understand your concern pain in the upper abdomen or between the chest and stomach, especially after eating spicy food, is quite common and usually points towards acidity, gastritis, or sometimes acid reflux irritating the food pipe. Advices Eat small, frequent meals and avoid long gaps between meals. Reduce spicy, oily, and heavy foods, especially at night. Drink enough water, avoid lying down immediately after eating, and maintain a light dinner. What to Monitor Whether the pain increases after meals, with coffee, or when lying down. Any associated bloating, nausea, or burning sensation in the chest. Management You may take a short course of a safe antacid syrup such as Digene or Gelusil after meals for a few days. Avoid self-medicating beyond this, as persistent pain for two months needs further evaluation. When to Consult a Doctor Immediately If you have vomiting, blood in vomit, or black stools. If pain radiates to the chest, jaw, or left arm. If you feel short of breath or have severe burning despite precautions. Every patient’s situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, it’s important to discuss your medical history and symptoms in detail. You can reach out to me directly for this case, and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation. I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one-on-one consultation, where you’ll receive: • A personalized treatment plan • Safe medicine adjustments (if required) • Quick follow-ups to track your recovery Take care, wishing you good health. Best regards, Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician
