Pain in Shoulder
I work in a heavy metal industry. Around 2 years back I was trying to move a heavy metal object within a confined place by lifting weight with one and suddenly I got a sharp pain in my shoulder then it went away for that time. Even after 2 years now when I move my hand back and up I can still feel that sharp pain is there. it is not a big problem unless I am exercising but it it is definitely a bit irritating how do I get rid of it?

Even after 2 years if Ur symptoms persist...means Ur body has not healed the root cause. It maybe partial ligament tear, rotator cuff muscles partial tear, or intra articular issue. I would suggest u to 1. Hot pack to relax your tight muscles 2. Shoulder blade alignment exercises 3. Strengthening of rotator cuff muscles 4. Core strengthening exercises 5. Use of Ur body with correct posture.

Your shoulder pain could be due to shoulder muscles injury. I would like to know whether the affected side is your dominant hand? If it is so, then obviously you must be using that side more and often which may lead to recurrent injury. You should give Cryotherapy (Ice therapy) to the affected side thrice a day for a week. You can use Volini gel or spray to the affected site provided you are not allergic.
Next Steps
You should avoid lifting weights on affected side to prevent further injury. Instead, you try to use the other hand for lifting weights supported by your affected side. You should do Shoulder strengthening  and mobilization exercises.
Health Tips
For further evaluation and guidance you need to consult a Physiotherapist or Orthopaedist.

Do not ignore such pain. Start applying ice pack on shoulder. And start isometric neck and shoulder exercises like shrugging, chin tucks ,some trapezius stretch, it will relieve stress on muscles. As per symptoms there is weakness in your muscles so after completing all exercises regularly.another week start theraband exercises for shoulder, pendulum exercises.
Next Steps
do wall stretch stand infront of wall keep one hand distance between wall and you.slwly move forward with hand sliding on wall try to touch upper area of of wall as much you can and again try to take your hand down slowly going back to starting position.

As mentioned by you, your symptoms point towards an injury of the muscular and partial injury to shoulder ligaments. Taking into consideration two long years which had passed off the ligament injury would have been settled but the muscle has become weak and atrophied due to inhibition of its activity by pain. Now what you should focus on is a graded progressive exercise protocol for your shoulder muscles that will ultimately reduce stress on the structures and ease off this issue for you. Furthermore, use an ice pack for your shoulder for7 minutes twice daily that will further help in decreasing the pain.
