Pain in left palm persisting for 3 yrs
Dear Doctor, I fell off my Avenger bike while riding at 55kmph at Anna Nagar, Chennai on 22/01/2017. The doctor took X Ray of my swollen left palm. There's no fracture. Yet I feel pain between my little finger and ring finger while holding vessels. Sometimes it even aches while riding bike. When I press on the palm right underneath my ring and little finger, I experience pain even now. What intrigues me is that it's been 3 years but the pain hasn't subsided altogether. What could it be?

The x ray looks fine, but since your pain is persistent an MRI scan is a good choice to look at the tendons and tiny ligaments in that area... They are the ones which get loaded while you lift a weight or grip on to any object.. ligaments are hard to diagnose and healing is unlikely.. tendons can still be managed with some guided rehabilitation.
Next Steps
MRI scan to rule out soft tissue injury

Hi You must have landed on your palm when you fell off and it was impacted to the ground. Check if you have any neck pain ? Any shoulder, arm or elbow pain which could be impacted with the injury ? Do you have a ny pain coming down from your neck to fingers in a same line ? When is the pain aggrevating , I mean in which position ? Please do check the above questions. Nothing to worry much. Avoid lifting heavy weights till you follow the below therapy.
Next Steps
Do try taking 2 bowls with hot and ice cold water and the bowls should be in such a way that you should be able to dip your hand till wrist. Add 1 tsp of rock salt to the hot water and 2 drops of Nilgiri oil to cold water. Now start dipping your left hand first in ice water bowl for 2 mins and then in hot water for 5 mins immediately. Repeat it for 3 times each in such a way that you start with dipping in ice water first and then ending with hot water. Try this for ten days once in a day and see the difference. After this try doing mild stretches to the fingers and wrist along with gripping of wrist with the help of a towel and leave.
Health Tips
If any further queries please do consult an Orthopaedic or a Physiotherapist. Take care ....... Stay safe
