From the photo and description, this does not look like classic oral thrush. Thrush usually appears as thick white patches that wipe off and leave a red, sore surface underneath.
A whitish coating on the tongue in the morning is commonly due to:
• Dry mouth during sleep
• Poor oral hygiene or plaque buildup
• Dehydration
• Mouth breathing or smoking
Advice:
• Clean the tongue gently once daily
• Drink adequate water
• Maintain good oral hygiene
• Avoid tobacco and alcohol
If the white patches become thick, painful, don’t scrape off, or persist for more than 10–14 days, then get an in-person dental or medical check to rule out fungal infection.
