Osteoarthritis is a progressive degenerative condition of a joint. Knees and hips are more prone to develop this. Once the cartilage is worn out it cannot regrow. Symptoms vary quite a lot depending on the mobility, weight, activity level and even weather (worse in winters). Physiotherapy and exercise regime may help for a varying duration of time. As the condition progresses symptoms worsen. Before you go to joint replacement sometimes an injection or an arthroscopy may help. Ultimate solution is a knee replacement. Inspite of many misconceptions knee replacement is very successful procedure done all over the world which is giving fantastic results. Hope this helps. Examination of the knee and clinical correlation is needed to decide whether conservative treatment will be of help or no. A gradual exercise program might help tho.
