It's a very very important query *Medications are gradually tapered,i.e one by one Medication at a time is planned to taper, For example there are 3 medications at the start of illness= in next one month there will be near about 50:to 60% improvement, * Further in next month, when patient symptoms improve to 70-80%, Medication as Clonazepam will be tried to taper and stopped first OCD is curable, most important is to continue follow up visits with the doctor, symptoms that are remaining further discussed, therapy as ERP is planned with medication for holistic approach Be Patient and trust your doctor, if you leave medication or try to adjust the dose on your own, symptoms may reoccur and all mutual efforts will be in vain, so maintain follow up with doctor

Hi, I understand your struggle. OCD often needs long-term treatment sometimes years, sometimes lifelong management. Medicines help reduce symptoms, but full “cure” isn’t always the goal; stability and control are. Your doctor will reduce or stop only when you’re steady for a good stretch, usually alongside therapy. Be patient with yourself you’re not failing, you’re healing.
Next Steps
Start CBT/ERP therapy. track triggers and progress, build steady daily habits, involve supportive family, and focus on management not speed of cure.
Health Tips
Keep medicine routine consistent, practice exposure in small steps, write down obsessive thoughts to see patterns, use relaxation before sleep, limit reassurance-seeking, and remind yourself: thoughts are not facts.

OCD is a long-term condition and treatment often requires both medication and therapy. Medicines like fluvoxamine (Uvox), risperidone, and clonazepam are commonly used, and the dose is gradually adjusted for best effect. Improvement usually happens over months, but there is no fixed timeline for when medicines will be stopped - it depends on your response, stability of symptoms, and doctor's judgment.
Next Steps
Keep regular follow-ups with your psychiatrist, as only they can decide when to reduce or stop medicines safely. Along with medication, structured psychotherapy (like CBT and ERP) is essential for long-term recovery. You may consult me for counselling strategies to strengthen your progress.
Health Tips
Be patient with the process - OCD recovery is gradual. Maintain good sleep, regular exercise, and relaxation practices. Avoid stopping medicines on your own, as that can lead to relapse.

1. Duration of Treatment In OCD, medicines usually need to be continued for at least 1–2 years after good improvement before a slow taper is considered. Stopping too early often leads to relapse. Some people may require long-term maintenance at the lowest effective dose. 2. Role of Therapy Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), especially ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), is equally important. Combining medicines with therapy gives the best and most lasting results. Therapy also helps reduce the risk of relapse when medicines are tapered. 3. “Complete Cure” OCD rarely disappears permanently like an infection. Many patients achieve remission (minimal symptoms, good functioning) with treatment. Think of it as a condition that can be well controlled, rather than expecting a permanent cure in all cases.
Next Steps
Continue medicines as advised by your doctor; don’t stop on your own. Ask your psychiatrist about starting CBT/ERP if not done already. Maintain healthy lifestyle habits (sleep, stress management, avoiding alcohol/drugs) Regular follow-ups help in dose adjustment and in deciding the right time to taper.
Health Tips
Stopping medicines should only be done gradually and under your psychiatrist’s supervision.
