Hi, I may need more details than these. How long is this going on? What about sleep, productivity at work? Do the negative thoughts come at the same time as these other symptoms or do they fluctuate , sometimes very negative and sometimes thinking too much of himself?? This could be Bipolar disorder, needs detailed evaluation . As he is beating people and may harm someone, please see a psychiatrist nearby immediately. Whatever the diagnosis,  the patient can always get better with the correct diagnosis, medication and / or counseling. All the best!
