Infants generally poop more times a day. For a 1.5-year-old, passing stool 5 to 6 times a day in small amounts and with mucus is sometimes normal if it is not watery, not foul-smelling, and your child is active and eating well.
At this age, frequent small bowel movements can happen due to a developing digestive system, teething, and recent dietary changes.
Things to keep in mind:
- Ensure your child is well hydrated.
- Include easy-to-digest foods like curd rice, dal, cooked and mashed vegetables
- Avoid packaged snacks, sugary foods and drinks.
- Avoid raw and outside foods.
- Maintain good hygiene.
- If the stool becomes watery, greenish, very smelly, or frothy, or if the baby shows signs of poor weight gain, lethargy or fever, please consult a pediatrician as it might not be normal.
