Hello Dr. My wife NT scan was normal with visible nasal bone and Nuchal Translucency 1.5 mm
But Triple marker test marks positive for Down syndrome 1:194, where the cut-off is 1:250
The doctor suggested for amniocentisis, but she is scared to go for the test and willing to go for termination. Is it the right decision.
She came to this final decision after taking a second opinion from another doctor. Who said that if it's present in the triple marker test, it will be definitely present in the amniocentisis test.
I have attached both NT Scan and triple marker test results

It is not the right decision.
She should go for only amniocentesis and not for NIPT.
Amniocentesis can't be done before 18 weeks. So she still has five more weeks to think.
I would suggest you to go for the amniocentesis, as it is better confirmatory test. No need to be scared. The test will tell the sure sort result and if the amniocentesis indicates possibility of Down’s syndrome then later you can opt for termination.
Amniocentesis is more accurate than triple maker test.
Combined testing with NT NB scan and triple marker has sensitivity of 95 percent in dectecting chromosomal abnormality and 5 percent false positive report. Which means that it is a screening test and NOT a diagnostic test and baby could still be absolutely normal in 5 percent cases with your report.
Amniocentesis is a diagnostic test which will give confirmed report. And then you can proceed with decision making.
If you are worried about the procedure then you can have an NIPT test done which is a blood test but it is 99 percent sensitive and less than 0.5 percent chance of false positive result
Kindly go ahead with amniocentesis if financial condition allows.
Because if u abort this baby, the same condition might arise again in next pregnancy.
