Hello, I understand your concern
This is common — don’t worry.
Many 8-month-olds still prefer breastmilk, and appetite varies a lot day-to-day. Babies are still learning textures, tastes, and how to swallow efficiently.
At 8 months, breastmilk continues to give most of the nutrition. Solids are mainly for:
Exploring textures
Learning chewing
Getting used to family foods
Next Steps
Offer solids when baby is slightly hungry Try giving solids first, then breastfeed after — not the other way around.
Maintain meal routine: 2–3 solid meals + 1–2 snacks per day
Create a calm, distraction-free environment: Seat baby in a high chair, avoid TV/phones, sit with them.
Offer a variety of textures: Mashed → soft lumps → finger foods. Babies may accept soft finger foods better
Let baby self-feed: Babies show more interest when they control the food.
Avoid force-feeding: No distraction feeding, no pushing food in the mouth. It creates long-term aversion.
Offer small quantities — repeated exposure works. Babies often need 12–15 repetitions of a new food before accepting it.
Health Tips
Red flags:
Baby is not gaining weight
Persistent vomiting with solids
Coughing/choking repeatedly while eating
Refuses all textures over 2–3 weeks
Very irritable, lethargic, or sick
