Mometasone furoate is a steroid but far better than orally consumed steroids. This is because of the dosage. These sprays have one thousandth the dose of an oral steroid tablet and are directed to the target site. Oral steroids are consumed, absorbed in blood stream and circulate all over the body therefore giving side effects elsewhere that may not be desirable. This is why inhaled or nasal spray steroids are safe even in pregnant and lactating mothers suffering from asthma or allergies. There is a large cohort study done in Sweden that proves this fact.
