I have used nose OTC spray daily for 2 years after having a bad cold. I am a student who works full time so I always told my self that i did not have time to deal with the 2 week rebound congestion from quitting. However, last week I quit cold turkey. Ive noticed my nose is very dry and when I look online everywhere says prolonged use causes nasal perforation. I am terrified a stupid mistake has ruined my nose.

Usually long term use of decongestant nose drops or spray will cause condition known as rhinitis medicamentosa which is nothing but severe swelling and rebound congestion of nasal mucosa. Septal perforation can occur but it's uncommon. There are many ways to treat rhinitis medicamentosa but specialist consult is necessary

Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and appropriate treatment if required
