Hello At her age people to tend to have a lot of experience and have faced ups and downs in life,we rarely see women of her age socializing too often so she has too many things close intact to herself, every situation is handled differently by different people please check sometimes we don't understand but the family unknowingly becomes critical which they feel the family will not understand if they open up. Please give her immense time to open up don't just  come to a conclusion that she has some psychological problem first try to be friendly with her, appreciate her efforts for the smallest things she does, boasting helps. We can't rule out the effect of hormones please get that checked.uncontrolled and untimely crying can be due to hormonal disbalance.
Next Steps
I appreciate your concern for your mother.its  nice to see that you have reached out, please talk to her about her childhood, her friends and relatives and topics she enjoys.encourage her to be more social in her capacity.

I am sorry to say that information provided about your mother's condition is not adequate enough to give a specific direction.  Her inappropriate affect and speech problem may be due to some mood disorder or may be due to some organic( neurological) causes, as we cant ruleout her age factor. So it's my suggestion please visit a doctor as soon as possible.

Hey there, human! Thank you for reaching out so we can be of assistance to you. We appreciate your concern for your mother. It may be difficult to pinpoint the cause simply from the information you have provided. Given her advanced age, her erratic moods may be a result of hormonal changes. Feeling overwhelmed due to the pandemic and a lack of socialization may also contribute. Lastly, it may be the early symptoms of a mood disorder.
Next Steps
I would recommend you to observe your mother’s behavior closely. Communicate with her openly to figure out what she is thinking and feeling. If you believe psychological intervention is necessary, get in touch with a psychologist. You may consult one that has a specialization in geriatrics.
