My father, since 1 month is having a loss of sensation in his legs after sitting at one place for some time, we did his MRI (whole spine screening).
The doctor has suggested surgery to treat the problem and have suggested some medicines for due time
Need an opinion on whether surgery is required or the same can be treated by Physiotherapy too

Kindly do not make haste for surgery.

-Control Hypertension, Diabetes or metabolic disorder, if there is any.
--. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding.
--. Keep no pillow under the head.
--. Avoid painful acts & activities.
--. Fomentation with warm water/ Gel pac .
Let the part not be exposed to cold.

The fact that he gets loss of sensation after sitting at a place for long time suggest that he might have compression on his nerves which can be at the level of his spine or along the nerves in his leg..
Next Steps
Need to see clinically where is the compression happening and then decide about whether surgery would be helpful or can be avoided.
