Nail colour
I'd dark black bands more than 3 mm on my hand nails not in toe nails. Now after 10-15 years the lines are very light but not completely gone. On thumbs lines can be seen clearly than other nails. Is this melanoma(skin cancer)? Below are my right hand nails' images. As a child(infant) I'd fits in fever and had used continuous medicines for approx. 3 years. Some marks are still on my body for taking the drug "Septran".

What you are having is the longitudinal melanonychia...it may be because of various reasons and also because of the drugs....If the lines are fading, you need not to worry ...but still get yourself examined by a dermatologist...melanoma is rare in Indians but it should rule out by taking a nail matrix biopsy...

Greetings. Such presentation is usually non-specific but very rarely can be associated with a condition called subungual melanoma which needs serious treatment. The problem is with clinical examination and even using a dermatoscope, the accuracy of diagnosis is doubtful and it do not rule in or rule out melanoma. You can either wait and have a periodic follow-up with the same dermatologist and document findings or proceed for a nail biopsy. It will be very comforting to know the diagnosis and will help to make precise treatment plan. Sometimes after a consultation and biopsy, active treatment may not be needed but periodic follow-up is all that may be necessary. Do not delay the consultation.
Next Steps
Your dermatologist will decide a treatment plan for you after a consultation.
