MRI for dementia
My aunt is suffering from mild to moderate dementia I have consulted a psychiatrist that has suggested to do an MRI brain for dementia apart from the MRI brain are there any dementia related tests as well that I should do or MRI brain would be sufficient

For a patient with dementia, the following step of examinations are required. Firstly,
Complete history, including past personal and family history
Followed by
Clinical scoring like Mmse and Moca
I hope the doctor have done this test and further asked for MRI Brain
Along with MRI Brain, blood investigations like complete blood count, liver function, test, renal function, test, vitamin B12 levels, thyroid levels, have to be tested
These investigations are enough as it covers, most of the causes of dementia
Further investigations depend upon the results of the above investigations
Also, we should know why we are doing this test
The blood investigations are to rule out reversible cause of dementia, including vitamin B12 deficiency, hypothyroidism , hepatic changes
And MRI Brain for both reversible as well as reversible lesions
