Greetings... Understood ur concern... At first it is reassuring that ur child is active n playing well without fever... it seems to be transient Secondary lactose intolerance due to episode of Prior Gastroenteritis .
Next Steps
Continue Zinc , Probiotics and ORS a stop giving milk / cow's milk for 2 weeks , replace milk with curd/ yogurt ...gradually after 2weeks re introduce milk ... STOP giving unnecessary ANTIBIOTICS on ur own especially. Avoid giving sugar drinks n fruit juices.
Health Tips
If Diarrhea continueing beyond 4 weeks consult nearby Pediatrician to investigate further .
Metrogyl is not recommended in this case.
You should give ors and probiotics.
Zinc should be started as well.
Keep him hydrated.
Add antibiotics if oral intake reduces or child develops fever or vomitting.
Loose motions usually take 3-5 days to normalise.
Don’t worry.
This is most likely acute viral gastroenteritis. Passing stools soon after eating is common due to an exaggerated gastrocolic reflex and does not necessarily mean the food is not being absorbed. As your child is active, has no fever or vomiting, and is taking fluids well, continue ORS after each loose stool, zinc supplementation for 14 days, and probiotics if advised. Avoid fruit juices and sugary drinks. Milk may temporarily worsen loose stools because of transient lactose intolerance after diarrhea, so reduce or avoid milk for a few days and offer curd instead. Metronidazole is usually not required unless specifically indicated by your pediatrician.
Next Steps
Continue a normal age-appropriate diet, monitor urine output and hydration, and review with your pediatrician if diarrhea persists beyond 7–10 days, becomes bloody, or if signs of dehydration, persistent vomiting, or lethargy develop.
Health Tips
Do not stop feeding during diarrhea. Frequent small meals, curd, rice, khichdi, banana, and plenty of fluids help recovery.
It is reassuring that your child is active, drinking well, passing urine normally, and has no fever or vomiting. Passing stool soon after eating is common during recovery from viral gastroenteritis due to a temporary increase in bowel movement and is usually not a sign that food is passing straight through. Continue ORS, zinc, probiotics, and a normal age-appropriate diet. Avoid unnecessary antibiotics unless specifically advised. If symptoms persist beyond 10–14 days, there is blood in stools, dehydration, persistent fever, or poor weight gain, please consult your pediatrician for further evaluation.
Greetings
This reaction commonly occurs due to a temporary condition known as secondary lactose intolerance, where a stomach bug temporarily damages the gut lining and depletes the enzymes needed to digest milk sugars. It may also be driven by an overactive gastrocolic reflex, which is a normal physiological response where eating signals the colon to contract and empty waste. Other possibilities include post-infectious gut sensitivity, toddler's diarrhea, or an underlying food intolerance. Because milk triggers immediate loose stools, you should consult your pediatrician about temporarily pausing normal dairy or shifting to a lactose-free diet while the gut repairs itself
