Yes, gargling with soluble Betnesol (Betamethasone 0.5 mg) tablets dissolved in water is a highly effective, clinically proven method for managing severe, painful, or multiple aphthous mouth ulcers. Betamethasone is a potent corticosteroid; when used as a mouthwash, it acts locally to rapidly suppress the immune-mediated inflammatory response that causes the ulcer's pain, redness, and swelling. This brings swift relief and speeds up healing. However, because it is a steroid, it must be used with precise local instructions and should never be swallowed to avoid systemic side effects

Health Tips
Strict Avoidance of Swallowing: "You must never swallow the Betnesol liquid after rinsing. Spitting it out ensures the steroid action remains completely localized to your oral cavity."
Dietary Adjustments: "While the ulcers are healing, strictly avoid spicy, acidic (tomatoes, citrus), salty, or very hot foods and beverages. These cause intense chemical and thermal irritation to the raw tissue base, significantly delaying recovery."
Toothpaste Check: "Switch to a mild, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)-free toothpaste. SLS is a foaming agent found in many commercial brands that can irritate the oral mucosa and trigger ulcers in sensitive individuals."
Caution: "Do not use steroid gargles for more than 5–7 days. Prolonged use can alter the natural microbial balance of your mouth, potentially inducing a secondary fungal infection like oral candidiasis (thrush)."
Red Flags: "Seek a direct medical review if an ulcer fails to heal completely within 14 days, if you develop a high fever, or if the pain becomes so severe that you are completely unable to swallow fluids."
Hey gentleman!
Betnesol tablets gargle is basically applying steroids to reduce inflammation and swelling. You should first find out the cause of the ulcers. In India, most common cause is deficiency of folic acid. So you can start 5mg folic acid tablet prophylactically and wait for two days to heal. For those two days try to have normal temperature liquids and soft things to eat and drink. Avoid hard diet and spices. We can connect to discuss in detail. And also share the picture of your ulcer to help me treat better.
Next Steps
Find out the root cause of ulcer. Start folic acid (5mg) prophylactically. Do salt water normal gargles.
