You don’t need to worry. Taking one isolated dose of mirtazapine 7.5 mg and starting escitalopram 10 mg after 3 days is safe. There is no harmful interaction, and they do not significantly affect each other’s liver metabolism or clearance. These two medicines are often even prescribed together in clinical practice. Continue escitalopram as advised by your doctor. Mild initial side effects like nausea, sleep changes, or anxiety can occur but usually settle in 1–2 weeks. If you notice severe restlessness, worsening anxiety, or any unusual symptoms, consult your psychiatrist. Overall, no action is needed right now—just follow up regularly.

Need not worry, we do often prescribe both medication together in cases of partial response to treatment. So, in your case you switched to Escitaopram after 3 days of taking an isolated dose of Mirtazapine 7.5mg, it will not have any interaction or adverse effect on you health. Consult a psychiatrist for optimisation of your medication.

Hello, You do not need to worry. Taking mirtazapine 7.5 mg for just one isolated night and then starting escitalopram 10 mg after a 3-day gap is safe and commonly done in clinical practice. Although mirtazapine has a relatively long half-life, a single low dose does not lead to meaningful accumulation in the body. By 3 days, the drug level would already be very low and clinically insignificant. There is no harmful interaction between mirtazapine and escitalopram in this situation, and no concerning effect on liver enzymes or drug clearance from this sequence.
Next Steps
• Continue escitalopram exactly as prescribed • No need to stop or delay the medication • Observe for common early SSRI side effects (mild nausea, headache, sleep changes), which usually settle in 1-2 weeks • Follow up with your doctor as advised
Health Tips
• A washout period is mainly important when switching from MAOIs, not in this case • Avoid frequent Googling about half-life- it often increases anxiety without clinical benefit • Do not add or stop medicines on your own without consulting your doctor For more queries, Reach out for an online or in-person consultation: 📞 NEURONAL FIX CLINIC, RAMPRASTHA COLONY, Ghaziabad, (near Shreshtha Vihar, Delhi)- +91- 74XX52XX97XX67XX61
