Low platelets can also be reported from a faulty technique or too much wait time of the sample after collection in the tube
Dont worry about the platelets, worry only if symptoms like bruising, bleeding from gums or bleeding from other sites occur.
Next Steps
Get platelet count repeated after 3-6 months to rule out any disease related manifestation

Low platelet count is known as Thrombocytopenia. Platlet do help in the blood clotting. So very low platlet count can result in bleeding from various parts of body. But symptoms do not present themselves untill count is decent (upto 20,000/cc).
So this problem is not an emergency
There are various reasons for low platlet such as- Bone marrow disorder/Clotting disorder/Medicine side effect/dengue/physiological etc.
So you should meet a DM Hematologist (degree) doctor and take treatment from them.
Next Steps
consult hematologist (superspecialist doctor who treats blood disorders) (DM)
