Prevention of any underlying cause should be helpful to prevent further Iron loss. However she should have Iron supplements both to correct anemia and to replenish body stores. She can take livogen-z twice daily and try taking it with orange juice (without sugar) or lemon juice ( with little salt added not sugar) as it contains vitamin c in it which helps in rapid iron absorption. Simultaneously, do not take calcium supplements or milk and any calcium rich foods when you take iron tablets as it works in contradiction to vitamin c. If you are a non vegetarian you can opt for organ meat like liver which gives you ample of dietary iron. Chick peas, Semi cooked spinach and other green vegetables, Pumpkin seeds can also be added to the diet along with vitamin c rich foods like orange, lemon, guava, kiwi. If still the problem persists consult a doctor. He may advice you for iron infusion. Don't need to worry about sugars as they are not that high but still keep a track on your diet. don't keep your stomach empty for long time. Have small and frequent meals. Drink plenty of water. Stay physically active by moving around. One more thing that would have been added very prior is your mother's weight. She should be around 67-70 kgs. She is nearly 10kgs more than her ideal weight. So it is very much mandatory to keep her weight in check to stay healthy and keep a control on diabetes.
