It’s quite common for new mothers, especially after a C-section, to feel that breast milk supply is not keeping up with the baby’s demand. Please remember that milk production depends mainly on frequent and effective breastfeeding or pumping. The more the breast is stimulated and emptied, the more milk the body produces. Nutritionally, make sure you are taking adequate fluids, a balanced diet with whole grains, pulses, green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, and protein sources. Some traditional galactagogues (milk-boosting foods) such as fenugreek seeds, cumin, garlic, oats, and moringa leaves may also help. Stress, lack of rest, and irregular feeding can reduce milk supply, so self-care and adequate hydration are important.
Next Steps
• Try to breastfeed or express milk every 2–3 hours, including at night. • Ensure correct latch and positioning (consult a lactation consultant if needed). • Limit formula use only when absolutely necessary, as frequent breastfeeding is the best natural way to boost supply. • Stay hydrated and rest as much as possible. • If supply continues to be very low, discuss with your gynecologist or a lactation consultant to rule out hormonal or medical causes.
Health Tips
Do not feel discouraged, many mothers take time to establish a good milk supply after C-section. Support from family and professional guidance makes a big difference. Continue close follow-up with your pediatrician to monitor your baby’s growth while you work on improving breast milk production.
