This is probably patellofemoral joint pain secondary to weak muscles due to sitting. You will have pain while sitting and sit to stand but will be comfortable while walking, running. This is not a ligament related problem even if the MRI shows something.
Next Steps
do a skyline view of both knees. we can do a in clinic consultation whenever you are comfortable to travel. you will probably require patella taping and muscle training.

Hello dear At your age i don't expect a knee ligament or cartilage to tear without injury. If you have had repeated swellings of knee, you need to consult an expert for something is definitely wrong. Lastly, i get a lot of patients like you who will come in and the first thing they say is i don't need any surgery. I would reflexly say "Me neither". So I need to figure out the problem first. Surgery or no surgery comes later on. Regards Dr Vipin Gupta
Next Steps
Consult online or in person if based in delhi

3-4 years is a long time, either you would be able to use your knee to maximum without discomfort in which case you don’t need any medical intervention . But if you have pain, instability or you are not using your knee due to those issues then you may need medical intervention not necessarily surgery.
Next Steps
Consult online with MRI reports.
Health Tips
Do not ignore or keep managing your knee issue. Rather go for the cure.

1) You can share MRI report here . 2) if there is injury you should do proper physio first or proper treatment ( medical /surgical) to avoid further damage to knee joint . 3) if there is sound coming then probably there is meniscus tear also (soft cushion like c shape thing between knee joint) and plus ligament tear also then it is hurting your joint cartilage ( soft protective  covering over the bone ) and if this protective covering is damaged  your knee problm will increase with age like (Osteoarthritis of knee joint , stiffness , difficulty in walking sitting etc). 4. If mri films + report confirms ligament tear plus meniscus injury. Best is to get it surgically treated  (key hole surgery & no big surgery ) For best results , if delayed  and there more damage to soft tissue in knee then surgery is alos difficult and result might be not that good
Next Steps
1. need to consult us online for further management. 2.  need to start good physiotherpy session to build muscle strength of knee
Health Tips
avoid sitting on ground and lower surface and avoid squatting avoid weight lifting and playing for few weeks  till physio  is complete
