Good morning. The X-rays are suggestive of tricompartmental osteoarthritis of the knees.
Should avoid stairs as well.
Topical lotion may be helpful, but avoid deep tissue massage.
Thanks and regards
Next Steps
Can ask her to do gentle physiotherapy exercises along with lifestyle modifications like avoiding squatting, kneeling, lunging, deep knee bends.
Total knee Replacement is very rewarding Surgery
She gets pain free life
Long term use of pain killer is harmful for her health
Go for knee replacement without any doubt
Seeing to the xray , it shows severe Osteoarthritis
Medications are only temporary
Lifestyle modifications important:
Dont sit down
Avoid cross legged sitting
Avoid Indian Toilets
Regular physio advisable
Intraarticular injections can be tired
Based on the X-ray, your mother has advanced osteoarthritis of both knees, which explains her pain and stiffness, and if knee replacement is not an option, conservative long-term management is reasonable. She can take paracetamol regularly for baseline pain, and short courses of weak opioids (like tramadol combinations) only if pain becomes severe, under medical supervision due to her age. Topical gels such as diclofenac or piroxicam gel can be applied 2â3 times daily and are safer than long-term oral painkillers. Calcium, vitamin D, and glucosamineâchondroitin supplements may help symptomatically but will not reverse arthritis. Daily quadriceps strengthening exercises, warm fomentation, knee cap support, weight control, and avoiding squatting or stairs are very important to reduce pain and maintain mobility.
