While running my knee suddenly got stained with a popping sound and severe pain. I felt something out of place but when I lied in my belly and folded my leg it felt like everything went back to its place. Then when I tried to stand I couldn't put pressure on my left knee as I felt like it was slipping away. There was pain for three days, I went to an ortho he told to take MRI after ten days.
My pain is manageable but I have not tried doing too much with my leg except a few physio exercises. I wanted to know how severe does my injury seem. When should i ideally go for MRI. What exercises I should do till I get MRI.

It sounds like you have a knee ligamentous injury, assuming that the X-ray is normal. Your doctor is waiting for the inflammation to subside. Severity of the injury will be assessed by the MRI

Feeling of instability is a sign of ligament injury.
The severity of injury can only be assessed based on clinical examination.
Get an X-ray to rule out avulsion fracture of the ligaments.
Get the MRI once swelling in the knee reduces a little.
Take rest for 2 weeks.
Start strengthening and range of motion exercises after that.
