Itching around the anal area
My mother is 55 years old and has been experiencing itching around the anal area (around and slightly inside the anus or butt hole) for the past few days. The itching occurs repeatedly and is quite uncomfortable.
There is no other major symptom that she has mentioned. Could you please advise what could be causing this itching and what cream or ointment, if any, can be safely applied to the area?
Should she see a doctor for an examination before using any medication? She applies coconut oil whenever that itching comes.
Please suggest what she can do for relief and whether there are any things she should avoid applying there.

This is most probably due to worm infestation if she hasn't been dewormed in the past 6 months or a fungal infection or contact dermatitis because of wearing new or tight or unwashed underwear.Please make sure there are no open wounds/fissure/fistula/haemarrhoid

Tab.Albendazole 400 mg once in the night and then once in the night after 2 weeks for deworming
if there are no open wounds a trial of zinc oxide(10%)paste or a diaper rash cream can be applied around the perianal area twice a day for 3 days
if the itching doesn't improve kindly consult in a clinic for detailed assessment and management

Recurrent anal itching may be due to fungal infection, eczema/contact irritation, piles or threadworms; an examination is needed before using any cream.
Keep the area gently clean and completely dry, avoid soaps/perfumes and scratching, and wear loose cotton underwear.
Please do not apply steroid or combination creams without medical advice.
I recommend an examination, especially if there is bleeding, pain, discharge or a lump.

Causes: Lack of hygiene is the first
Excess moisture
Excess spice, caffeine, alcohol
Rough cleaning
Infection
Hemorrhoids, fissure
Cream: Calmoseptin is the safe drug to be applied
Steps: Clean the area with minimal soap and water, clean cotton swab
Do not let any moisture be there
