Is eye laser surgery for cataracts successful
I am a 55 year old male, diagnosed with Cataract in my left eye. I have been advised laser surgery for the same. Is eye laser surgery for Cataract always successful? Are there any side-effects of the same? What are the precautions to be taken pre and post surgery? Can this surgery ever go wrong?

Laser is used only to soften the lens,so that it can be easily extracted through a smaller opening. Its more useful in hard cataract. The basic surgery is performed by phaco only. Which is quite a safe procedure. The risks are equivalent to possibility of road accidents. Precautions will be same for phaco with laser or without laser.

1) Is Laser eye surgery always successful? - No surgery, for that matter no treatment can be said to be 'always successful' with certainty. However given the advancement in medical sciences and surgical technologies, almost all Phaco surgeries are successful, with minimal risks. 2) Are there any side-effects? - If the surgery has gone successfully, then there are almost no chances of side-effects, provided you strictly follow the prescribed treatment. However the physiology of everybody and every eye is different, so medical advice may be needed even after a successful surgery. 3) Precautions to be taken? - Your doctor will prescribe some medicines before and after surgery, you have to strictly adhere to them. Avoid dust, water etc. in the operated eye for at least one week. 4) Can this surgery ever go wrong? - There is nothing like 'surgery going wrong'. However, there are always risks of complications in any surgery, minor or major. Complications can never be predicted beforehands, however the surgeon always chooses the best course during the surgery for optimum outcome. Complication in Cataract surgery are nevertheless very rare, and the surgeon will always take care to do the best possible surgery and choose the best treatment. So do not worry about complications, and have trust in your doctor.
