It's commonly done between 15 and 19 weeks of pregnancy. Ultrasound is needed to identify the correct age of pregnancy.

It is a blood test of the pregnant woman at 12 wks and later at 15-18 wks. Ultrasound is also required. It is a screening test for chromosomal abnormalities like Down’s syndrome. It is mandatory for high risk mothers.
