I have birth control pills, and I want to skip my period that may arrive in about 9 days. I've never taken it before, but this is a vacation, so I want it to be period-free. I'm also open to other suggestions.

You can continue with your birth control pills. As long as you take them you will not get periods. But the red pills are only iron supplements so you you need to take white pills. To be fully sure you can take the pill twice a day.
Next Steps
Take your pill twice a day till the time you don't want periods The moment your commitment is over you stop and periods will appear in 3/4 days.
