Dentist does all the general practice .(treatment planning/ includes all the specialities) Where as an orthodontist is a specialized in alignment of crooked teeth or misaligned jaws. Generally it is Dentist then orthodontist but in ur case It can be directly an orthodontist so that u have the knowledge that u need to wear braces. Wish u a grt smile ahead.
