Hello there. Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences for your mother, so sorry for your loss! Also, you should know that your worries and fears are absolutely valid. Covid-19 can affect people with other comorbidities far worse than those without. Your worries are completely justified. However, as a person living with people with other underlying conditions there is only so much you can do without compromising your own health. You can ask your father and your sister to take care of themselves, get after them to fix their habits and lifestyle, and even change their food intake by making food at home that is best suited for their conditions. Beyond this, however, there isnât much you can do if they donât want to change. You cannot force them to be better if they have chosen to continue with their ways.
I understand that this can be distressing for you and you may be existing in an environment of increased stress and worry. This is why you should, first and foremost, take care of yourself. If your health is affected negatively, then it can get more difficult to take care of them and yourself. This will further lend in deteriorating your health and the outcome will be you stuck in a dangerous cycle. You can talk to both your father and sister and tell them how their carelessness affects you, and hope they improve their ways a little. There is nothing much you can do despite wanting to. So try, instead, to take better care of yourself and make sure you donât take too much stress. You can seek therapy, if that will help you focus on your health more and deal with the stress of your father and sister. There are several organizations and independent setups that offer free or affordable therapy with various offers that you can avail. They provide online therapy which can be face-to-face or via text, based on your preference. Take care!
Dear 'I need help',
I understand you are concerned about your father and sister but I request you to let them live their lives as they want to. More than half the time which could be spent in a good mood might be wasted on these arguments I suppose. So instead of increasing unnecessary tension live in peace. Diabetes and heart problems are more related to stress than food and lifestyle.
Remember that life and death is always in the hands of God.
With Regards,
Dr.Nisha James
Dear human, thank you for sharing and reaching out. Youâve taken the first step in resolving your concern and I appreciate your decision to reach out for help.
It must be pretty daunting to feel the way you feel. Understanding each other and communication is very much important in this case. You can try explaining them why you feel the way you do and can tell them you are genuinely worried about them, even though it's tough you can try.
But you can try these tips to face the situation :
Decide if youâre going with a blunt conversation opener or if youâre going to be more delicate about it.
Use observations about their behavior to explain why youâre worried.â
Bring this up when youâre both feeling relatively relaxed.
Follow your gut when it comes to bringing up this topic again.
Tell them what you're worried about.
If you think they have been doing things which are unsafe, talk about what you've noticed. Let them know you're talking about it because you care about them.
Try these steps if these still dont help you can try to get in touch with us. You can book an appointment with us and talk to us freely without any fear of judgment.
Hope to see you soon, take care.
