I have had pain in my knees while i climb up the stairs. It doesn't pain while walking or running, only when I climb the stairs, squat and a similar movement.

It seems to be meniscus tear, Posterior horn or meniscus. You need to get MRI of the knee at best centre with 3 Tesla machine. That will confirm diagnosis.
