Since you are living with HIV and are on ART, it is encouraging that your oral thrush has resolved after treatment with fluconazole. The burning sensation in the throat with spicy foods may be due to residual irritation after the infection, acid reflux, or another local cause. If it persists, worsens, or you notice difficulty swallowing, it should be re-evaluated to ensure the thrush has not recurred or that there is no other condition.
Regarding your genital warts, recurrence can occur even after treatments such as immunotherapy, electrocautery, or 90% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) because these treatments remove the visible warts but do not completely eliminate the underlying HPV infection. People living with HIV have a higher risk of recurrence, especially if the immune system is still recovering.
As for the HPV vaccine, yes, it is generally recommended for people living with HIV who fall within the recommended age range and have not completed vaccination, even if they have already had genital warts. The vaccine will not treat existing HPV infection or remove current warts, but it can help protect against other HPV types included in the vaccine and may reduce the risk of future HPV-related disease. You should discuss vaccination with your HIV specialist, who can advise based on your age, vaccination history, and local recommendations.
Next Steps
Continue taking your ART exactly as prescribed and keep all follow-up appointments. Proceed with the TCA treatment if your treating dermatologist recommends it, and continue regular follow-up because additional treatment sessions are often needed. Avoid smoking if applicable, as it is associated with a higher risk of persistent HPV infection. If the throat burning continues despite resolution of the thrush, arrange a review with your treating physician. Health Tips
Maintain excellent adherence to ART, eat a balanced nutritious diet, get adequate sleep, and avoid alcohol or tobacco if applicable. Practice safer sex and inform your healthcare provider about any new genital lesions, persistent throat symptoms, or recurrent oral white patches. With consistent ART, regular follow-up, and appropriate treatment of genital warts, many people living with HIV maintain good health and significantly reduce the risk of complications. Thank you
HPV vaccine won’t help you, since you already have warts. Need to know your CD4 count , if it is low there are medications to improve it apart from ART , please consult directly in practo
