This will definitely need surgery to normalize the hip joints. as You can see on xrays both hip joints are abnormal anatomy (DDH). I would highly recommend surgery with experts in this field. It would majorly improve your Lifestyle. Till then dislocations would be a common occurrence.

Thank you for opening up — I truly understand how living with bilateral congenital dislocation of the hips (also called Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip – DDH) can affect not only your mobility but also your confidence and day-to-day life. The discomfort in walking, the altered gait, and the emotional toll it takes are very real, and you're absolutely right to seek clarity and hope. Can It Be Treated? Yes — this condition is treatable, even in adults, and Total Hip Replacement (THR) has emerged as a reliable and life-changing solution for many patients like you. In bilateral DDH, both hips are underdeveloped from birth, and over time this leads to: Abnormal walking patterns (waddling gait) Limb length differences Hip pain or stiffness Limitation in daily activities like sitting, squatting, or walking long distances How Total Hip Replacement Can Help: In experienced hands, Total Hip Replacement: Replaces the deformed joint with a prosthetic implant Improves mobility, corrects limb length to an extent Reduces pain significantly Brings major improvement in walking pattern and range of motion Boosts confidence and overall quality of life Dr. Sumit Chawla, a joint replacement specialist, regularly evaluates and manages complex hip disorders including DDH. A clinical evaluation, review of your imaging, and a detailed plan can help you understand what to expect clearly. Things to Understand Before Surgery: While the surgery is very effective, it's important to go into it with realistic expectations: Ground sitting and squatting are usually restricted after THR. Rehabilitation plays a crucial role — physiotherapy over several weeks helps you regain strength and confidence. There are financial considerations — such surgeries can involve costs of implant, hospital stay, rehab, and follow-up. Lifelong care of the prosthetic joint is important, and in the future (after 15–20 years or more), revision surgery may be needed. Since your anatomy is different from birth, the surgery is more complex — but safe and routinely done. 🏥 What You Should Do Next: Get a consultation with a specialist orthopedic surgeon with experience in complex hip replacements like Dr. Sumit. Carry your X-rays and MRI if done, so the stage and severity can be clearly assessed. Discuss the full rehabilitation plan, costs involved, and long-term care. Understand the surgical technique, limitations, and precautions after surgery. In Summary: Please don’t feel disheartened — your condition can be improved, and you’re not alone in this. With the right treatment plan and guidance, you can regain comfort, dignity, and confidence in your mobility. You’re already taking the right step by asking and learning. You can book an appointment with Dr. Sumit Chawla, joint replacement specialist, at Practo.

It can be improved by surgery. A total Hip replacement for both the hips. You will require a special type of prosthesis which goes by the brand name of S-ROM. We have done this for 3 patients in the past 1 year and all of them are much better than before

This condition is known as Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). At 19 years of age, the skeleton is almost fully matured, and bilateral Total Hip Replacement (THR) is the preferred surgical management. However, the decision whether to perform surgery and when to perform it depends on the severity of symptoms and the extent of limitations in day-to-day activities. THR in such cases is a complex procedure, as the anatomy of the hip is abnormal. Therefore, it is best performed by experts in the field. You must also be aware that each prosthesis (artificial hip joint) has its own lifespan—usually 15 to 25 years, depending on the material, usage, and lifestyle—and may require revision surgery in the future. Surgery would be the first step, followed by structured physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and necessary lifestyle modifications. Touching upon the psychological burden of the condition, I would strongly suggest seeking support from mental health professionals. Remember, a medical condition does not define who you are—there is much more to life beyond it.
Next Steps
For further management, I would refer you to the stalwarts in hip surgery: Dr. Rajeev Joshi at Sancheti Hospital, Pune, or Dr. Abhijit Agashe.
