Gum pain after crowning of molar
Hello Doctor, I had sensitivity in one of my molars. The dentist diagnosed it as due to gum recession and fixed a computer designed crown to cover maximum exposed area of root. It took many weeks for the sensitivity to reduce but a particular point on the gum always remained painful on touching or while brushing. I feel it is a sharp edge of crown which keeps irritating the gum and not allowing it to heal. It's already three months after treatment. Please suggest some remedy so that it gets healed. Can this inflammation or irritation be treated with some topical applications or it will be better to repair or replace the crown. An early reply will be much appreciated.

Hello sir Hope I can lessen your discomfort. See it seems to be overcontoured crown which needs to be contoured properly. I suggest you to get it rounded properly to avoid trauma

Hi. From your description it isn't clear whether a root canal was done. Gum recession most often is accompanied with inflammation of the ligament supporting your tooth(periodontitis). Was that treated by deep cleaning or a flap? Usually for elders it is ideal to do root canal to counter sensitivity issues The crown coverage may or may not contribute but only a clinical evaluation by a doctor will be of help.
