There has been a big swelling and infection in my gums adjacent to the tooth for which I had done RCT 7-8 years back. I visited a Dentist and she gave some medicines for 5 days and said if it cures else will have to pull out the tooth. She removed my RCT Cap too. Had the same problem though of a less magnitude earlier for which an earlier dentist did some surgery and it went fine for years.Would like to know if there's any other solution than tooth removal?

Hi sir....
That swelling is due to reinfection of the Root Canal treated tooth which may be due to poor cleaning of the root during previous root canal procedure or due to poor caping of root canal treated tooth which cause food accumalation underneath and spread of infection to the gums....First and foremost take X_Ray(IOPA) of that region and according to the diagnosis from radiological investigation we can decide whether to go for Re RCT procedure or to do extraction of that involved tooth...

Talk to experienced dentist online and get your health questions answered in just 5 minutes.
It all depends on which tooth is affected and location of swelling. Thorough examination with some investigations like X ray, cbct of that area are required to give correct opinion. So get them and consult your dentist.
