Generalised anxiety disorder
I was detected for GAD and was put on treatment 7 months ago. I have had anxiety since childhood, but back then couldn't figure it out that it actually was a disorder rather than mere being anxious states. I am currently on venlafaxine 75mg twice daiky, sertraline 50 mg twice daily and trifluoperazine 2.5mg twice daily. Before my prescription was altered many times, to keep this as a final prescription which is definitely helping a lot. Though GAD but my anxiety is very severe during studies. So much so that it makes me unable to study, it has improved a lot than before but still persists. I have my exams near corner, and I am unable to keep up the pace in studies for my examination, so what would you suggest? Should I keep it slow and give my exams later or should I study rigoursly despite being anxious and give my exam?

Hello. If you have some time before your exams then see a psychologist as recommended by your psychiatrist. GAD is best treated with both meds and psychotherapy. To start off, exam anxiety can be dealt with so that you can feel.more comfortable in that situation. I would suggest that you go ahead with your exams as avoiding a situation can lead to an increase in anxiety ( its a vicious circle).

Hi Exams are as it is considered as anxiety provoking by many people but it can definitely be taken care of. Do not quit the exams as avoiding a situation will further worsen your problem. I can help you with a few tips to manage exam anxiety , first of all while studying if you find yourself overly preoccupied by the result you need to understand that if you give in your best you don't really need to worry about the results . So focus on giving your best . Take proper breaks while studying instead of rushing and studying continuously. You can study in intervals of 45 mins and then take a short 15min break (no TV or music) where you can take a stroll and come back, the aim is to leave the study room and come back after 10-15mins. Following with another 45mins of study and then you can take a longer break where you can do what ever you want. You must also study on clutter free table chair never study on bed. As far as GAD is concerned my experience says that psychotherapy helps quite a lot in eradicating the problem from the root . So consult a Psychologist at the earliest and you will feel the difference.
