Frequent Urination and burning sensation
Title: Recurrent E. coli UTI – Advice on Medicines and Tests Hello Doctor, I have recurrent urinary symptoms and a history of E. coli UTI. I did a urine culture and sensitivity test today; the report is awaited. My current prescription includes Niftas 100 mg twice daily for 7 days, Uripas as prescribed, Ecoflora for 30 days, Canid-CL for 3 days, Iropas for 2 days, and Cital UTI syrup. I urinate around 15 times daily, sometimes in large amounts. My underwear becomes wet immediately after urination and has an unusual coffee-like smell. My previous culture showed E. coli resistant to nitrofurantoin. Please advise: Should I continue Niftas despite the previous resistance report? Should my treatment be reviewed when the new culture report arrives? What could cause frequent urination and wetness after urination? Can I postpone Ecoflora due to financial constraints? I would appreciate advice on the safest and most cost-effective treatment. Thank you.

Wait for the urine culture report. What if the sensitivity has changed?

Wait for culture report. Antibiotics will be prescribed as per sensitivity report.

Frequent urination with wetness and an unusual smell, together with your history of resistant E. coli, points to an active infection that the new culture result will help confirm. Since your earlier culture showed resistance to nitrofurantoin, continuing it without checking against this fresh report isn't ideal, and that call is best made by whoever is treating you once sensitivity comes back.
Next Steps
Hold off finalising the antibiotic plan until the new report comes in, and flag the earlier resistance to your prescriber so it's factored in. Ecoflora is a probiotic, so a short delay for cost reasons is unlikely to cause harm. Please consult your gynaecologist or physician once the culture result is in.
Health Tips
If fever, back or side pain, or vomiting develop before the report arrives, don't wait for the culture and get reviewed urgently.
