Fifth metatarsal mild hairline fracture
Its been 28 days since my fracture, i m on cast and yesterday i joined back my work, i was not keeping my leg elevated however it is a desk job. Almost after 3.5 hours i noticed my legs where swollen. Should i undergo surgery? Or is it normal? From yesterday i m experiencing slight pain even on cast. For the last 3 weeks i was not having any pain. I m too much concerned as my mobility is restricted and i have 15 months old baby

With the history provided, 4 weeks of immobilisation should be enough, however x rays of the affected part would be helpful in suggesting further course.
Next Steps
Keep the limb evelvated, could be done even for a desk job. Consult a orthopaedic surgeon to ascertain the amount of swelling and need for cast removal so as to avoid further complications which could be limb and life threatening.

Hello greetings from Kolkata. As per your query you have been on cast since last 3 weeks for your injury which is 4 weeks old. It's not at all advisable to keep your leg hanging for such long period after a fracture even if you are on cast. You need to elevate your leg over a chair and over pillows while sleeping as well. Generally the cast would be taken off around 4-5 weeks. So maintain the restrictions till then. Can take tab chymoral forte thrice daily for 5days for swelling.
Next Steps
It would have been helpful if you could send me the xray picture.

Have to see the xray, we dont know what fractute it was.. 4 weeks completed it should have healed hopefully.. coming to swelling, may be because of not having good cast care... Keep the limb elevated, dont keep walking on it.
